Helmore Ayers is the third oldest law firm in Canterbury, founded by Mr G N Helmore in 1883. Over the years many distinguished lawyers have worked in the firm including the late Kerry Ayers after whom the firm is now named. At present the firm consists of three partners, Peter O'Dea, Peter Wyllie and Alan Bruce and one senior associate lawyer Charlene Benson.
The firm has been in Christchurch continuously until the present, apart from a short period in Rangiora after the Christchurch earthquakes.
We are now located on Birmingham Drive Middleton in a large modern building with plenty of carparking.
We have a large practice, based on Commercial and other Property work, Asset ownership structuring, Construction Contracts and Litigation. We have recently branched out and can offer expertise in Cyber Law.
We undertake consultancy work for accounting and other legal firms, banks and trust companies both domestically and internationally. In recent years, our business has grown and we have presented national and international seminars in our fields of practice for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand, the New Zealand Law Society, the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners as well as Universities.
